Bullheads defeat St. Louis Park
SEARLES – The Searles Bullheads 35-and-over team won an important game on Sunday by defeating the St. Louis Park Cardinals by a score of 5-3. St. Louis Park (12-3) is currently in first place of the Wilson Division of the River Valley League, while Searles improved their record to 7-7 in the Rawlings Division.
The Bullheads had one of their better hitting games of the season, pounding out 13 hits, including four doubles. Searles opened the scoring with one run in the second inning on singles by Doug Ekstrom and Matt Kuster, plus an RBI double by Troy Kamm, the first of three hits on the day.
In the fourth inning, the Bullheads added three more runs on three consecutive doubles. With two outs and a runner on first, Kamm hit a ground rule double over the right center field fence. John Giefer followed with a clutch two run double and Corey Schaefer pushed across one more run with his two-bagger. A final run was added in the fifth on an RBI single by Brad Mathiowetz.
Meanwhile, the Bullhead’s Scott Rummel was cruising along through five innnings, giving up one run in the third, and allowing just two hits, to get his fourth win of the season. Craig Schmitz pitched the sixth inning and gave up the final two runs to the Cardinals. Chris Peters got the save by shutting out St. Louis Park in the seventh inning.
The Bullheads, with 18 players lending support, turned two double plays. Searles left 13 runners stranded on base. The Bullheads have two make up games scheduled for Saturday against Waconia and New Hope. The game times will be determined later in order to avoid a conflict with the Searles Grizzlies’ Region 2C game.
