Waloch, Sunderman file for School Board
NEW ULM – With the filing deadline for candidates for the District 88 school board elections coming up on Aug. 12, two candidates have filed for the five open seats.
Two of the open positions are two-year terms, where people have been appointed to fill vacancies. The other three seats carry four-year terms.
Christi Dewanz was appointed to fill the seat of Jill Hulke, who left the board when it was discovered she lived just outside the district boundaries. The other two-year term was recently vacated by the resignation of Sharon Gieseke. Denny Waloch was appointed to fill that vacancy. He was sworn in on July 24.
Waloch has filed for the seat to which he was appointed. Dewanz indicated Thursday she intends to file for election to her seat.
Melissa Sunderman of New Ulm has filed for one of the other three school board seats that are up for election this year. They are currently held by Duane Winter, Steve Gag and Don Deslauriers. The other three candidates have not filed as of Thursday afternoon.
Deslauriers said Thursday he was undecided on whether to seek re-election.
