Eagles 5000 5K coming up
NEW ULM – The third annual Eagles 5000 5K Run/Walk and KidsK will be held Saturday, Sept. 6, starting at the New Ulm High School.
The KidsK will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K at 9:30 a.m. Entry fees vary according to age, and runners can register the day of the race between 7:30 and 9 a.m., but are encouraged to register online or download a registration form at www.friendsofisd88.org/
events. Register by Sept. 3 to guarantee a t-shirt.
Those who don’t run are encouraged to line the route and cheer for participants. Medals will be awarded to top finishers in each age/gender of 5K and top male and female NUHS alumni.
The event is coordinated by The Friends of ISD88, with help from student clubs and sports teams. Volunteers are also needed. For more information, visit the website above or contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Santa in the Summer
NEW ULM – The Sertoma Club of New Ulm will hold its annual Santa in the Summer fundraiser on Thursday, Aug. 21, at the Brown County Fairgrounds from 4 to 7 p.m.
Sertomans will be serving hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken or bratwurst; chips, beverage and all the sweetcorn you can eat for $8. Advance tickets for $7 may be purchased at the Chamber office. A child’s hot dog meal is only $3 (ages 6 and under).
Santa Claus will be making an appearance, so bring your camera. Sertoma will also have games for the children and serve 1919 root beer floats. Bring in your unused hearing aids & receive a free meal.
Proceeds from this fundraiser helps support Santa’s Closet, local education, and hearing equipment.
Baby Cafe meets Monday

NEW ULM – The New Ulm Medical Center (NUMC) Pulmonary Rehab Department sponsors the Better Breathers Club of New Ulm. This support group is free, open to all. Back to School Fun Night
NEW ULM -?McDonald’s in New Ulm will host a Back to School Family Fun Night on Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. as a fundraiser for Pro Kinship for Kids.
McDonald’s will donate 10 percent of all sales on this night to Pro Kinship for Kids programming.
McDonald’s will be holding a coloring contest during this time and running a movie for families to enjoy. Pro Kinship for Kids will be running games like Hole-in-One, Ring Toss, and Peanut Toss for prizes. There will also be some fun back to school activities to enjoy as well as face painting available.
Mankato Walk to End Alzheimer’s
MANKATO – The Alzheimer’s Association will hold a Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, Sept 13.
Registration is at 9 a.m. with an Opening Ceremony & Walk at Sibley Park Pavilion, 900 Park Lane, Mankato.

The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting residents in southern Minnesota communities to start or join a team today. The routes are one- or two-miles. The Mankato Walk is one of 10 walks that will be held in Minnesota.
All participants who raise $100 will receive a t-shirt. All participants will have a chance to place flower in the Promise Garden and write “their reason” for walking on the flower.
This family-friendly event includes live music by The VINE Garage Band before and after the walk. Plus, there will be snacks, beverages and other fun activities.
It is projected that the number of Minnesotans living with Alzheimer’s disease will increase 36 percent by 2025.
