Running with Zombies part of Corn Days fun
SLEEPY EYE – For some the idea of a 5K run is a nightmare.
Organizers of Sleepy Eye’s Annual Butter Corn Days Zombie Crawl have expanded on that theme.
The 5K began in Allison Park and proceeded through a serious of horror themed obstacles, such a fire line, four foot walls, a snake tunnel and a slip n’ slide. The path is marked by skulls and other macabre decorations. Many of the runners choose to show up in zombie themed makeup.
While some might feel it is a little early to get out the Halloween Decoration, event organizer Brent Mielke explain the Zombie 5K was original held in October, but the weather proved too unpredictable and was combined with Butter Corn Days Run. Though, with the popularity of the Zombie Crawl, a special Halloween run through Sleepy Eye is in the planning stage.
The horror theme has helped set this 5K apart from other runs. This year 114 people registered to be part of the run. Aside from the zombies, this 5K is unique in that no official time is kept. Mielke stated the goal of the event is to have fun. As long as the runners continue to have fun the annual Zombie Crawl will never die.
