Sobieski tops Hanska in state
BELLE PLAINE – Tyler Jendro struck out 12 and allowed just two Hanska hits to lead Sobieski to a 2-0 win over the Lakers Sunday night in the Class “C” Minnesota State Amateur Baseball Tournament.
Dayton Larson went seven innings and allowed two runs and six hits.
Hanska ends its season with a 21-7 record.
Sobieski broke a scoreless game in the top of the fifth inning when Josh Wenzel singled, then stole second and took third on an Isaac Smieja sacrifice bunt.
Wenzel came home on a suicide squeeze bunt from Nate Olson.
The Skis (19-5) added an insurance run in the eighth inning.
Joey Hanowski singled and stole second before he came home on a Jon Czech base hit.
Jendro did not walk a batter for Sobieski. During the game he struck out 10 straight Lakers hitters.
Czech had two of the six hits in the game for Sobieski.
Mikale Gustafson and Eric Portner had the hits for Hanska.
The game, which was scheduled to start at 5 p.m., was held up by an almost three-hour rain delay.
