Fatal accident at 4 & 29 intersection
An accident on Thursday afternoon in rural Brown County claimed the life of Travis K. Thompson, age 24, of Morton, according to information from the State Patrol.
The broadside accident occurred at 2:29 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 29 and Highway 4. It involved a 1999 Buick Regal and a 2006 Ford Super Duty truck.
The Buick, which as driven by Abigail M. Balsley, age 18, of Redwood Falls, was westbound on Brown County Road 29. The Ford, which was driven by Michael H. Hartmann, age 55, of Paynesville, was southbound on Highway 4, the State Patrol reported.
Thompson was a passenger in the Buick. He was wearing a seatbelt. Balsley suffered a non-life threatening injury and was taken to the Sleepy Eye Hospital. An airbag deployed in her vehicle. Hartmann had no apparent injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt. No alcohol was detected on either driver or Thompson.
The Buick was totaled. The Ford had moderate damage.
The Sleepy Eye Fire Department, Sleepy Eye Ambulance and North Air Care assisted on the scene.
