Bullheads pull out 4-3 win in 8, advance to title game

ARLINGTON – The Searles Bullheads advanced to the Class AA state championship game in Over-35 baseball with a 4-3 eight-inning victory against the St. Peter Saints on Saturday in Arlington.

The Bullheads were saved by Troy Kamm, who threw home from center field to record the final out of the game at home plate after a single by the Saints’ No. 7 hitter in the bottom of the eighth.

Both teams were tied at 2-2 until the eighth inning, when the Bullheads pushed two runs across in the top half.

Corey Schaefer drove in Cory Haala for the first run of the inning before Craig Schmitz laid down a suicide squeeze bunt to drive in the second run.

The Saints scored one run in the eighth but were stopped short after Kamm’s throwout.

The Bullheads will play the Prior Lake Mariners at 6 p.m. on Sunday in Hamburg for the Over-35 state title.
