Irene B. Seifert

Irene B. Seifert , age 92, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on August 23, 2014, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.

Service will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, on Tuesday, August 26, at 10:30 a.m. The clergy will be Msgr. Eugene Lozinski.

Interment will be at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, in Sleepy Eye.

Visitation will be on Monday from 4-8 p.m. and will continue on Tuesday from 7:3-10 a.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a Christian Mothers rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m., both Monday at the funeral home.

Irene Bertha Seifert was born on March 8, 1922 in Sleepy Eye, MN the daughter of John and Philemina (Heller) Sellner. She attended St. Mary’s School in Sleepy Eye. Irene married Sylvester Seifert on October 28, 1947, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. They made their home on a farm east of Evan for 48 years, moving into Sleepy Eye in 1995. She was a life long member of St. Mary’s Church and the Christian Mothers Society. Irene volunteered many hours to both nursing homes in Sleepy Eye, to St. Mary’s Church and Next Tu New. She was involved with the Reach to Recovery Program and participated in the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging by sponsoring a child in Guatemala. Irene enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, crafts and bird watching. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and friends.

She is survived by her two daughters, Debbie (Doug) Halvorson of North Mankato, Cindy (John) Nelson of New Ulm; three grandchildren, Alex, Michael Nelson and Nicole Halvorson; brothers, Roger and Marvin Sellner, both of Sleepy Eye; sisters, Doreen LeGare of Redwood Falls, and Judy (Chuck) Fearn of Minneapolis; sister-in-law, Stella Sellner, Norma Sellner and Jean Bloemke all of Sleepy Eye; special friend and hair stylist, Mary Jo Schroepfer; and many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sylvester; brothers, Alvin, Bob, Jerome, and John, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Marian Sellner, Dorothy Sellner, Violet Barsness, Arlene Seifert; and brothers-in-law, Phil LeGare and Art Seifert.
