Nicollet opens season with win

FOOTBALL

Nicollet 32, Hills-Beaver Creek 18

HILLS – Nicollet began its season with a 32-18 victory against Hills-Beaver Creek on Thursday.

Senior quarterback Dalton Elliott combined for five touchdowns – three passing and two rushing. Elliott passed for 265 yards on 17-of-31 completions and also rushed for 114 yards on 15 carries.

Elliott’s touchdown passes went to three different receivers – Travis Murphy for a 15-yarder, Desmond Wills for a 39-yarder and Jay Hendrycks for a 33-yarder.

Kenny Fischer led the receivers with eight catches and 91 yards.

Defensively, Colin Bloemke led the Raiders (1-0) with 11 tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery. Andrew Radke totaled two tackles for loss with his 10 total tackles.

Nicollet will host Fulda on Sept. 5.

VOLLEYBALL

CM/C 3, Madelia 0

MORGAN – Cedar Mountain/Comfrey won its first game of the season, sweeping Madelia 25-20, 25-17, 25-20.

Natalie Hoffbeck led the Courgars with three aces and 10 digs. She also had 21 block assists and one kill. Lauren Boyle had 22 digs.

Madelia’s Sarah Haynes fielded two aces, 12 kills and one block, while Katie Thompson had 23 set assists.

Madelia will play its next game at home against Mountain Lake Area on Tuesday.

Cedar Mountain will play on Thursday at Wabasso.

RRC 3, Springfield 0

LAMBERTON – Red Rock Central swept Springfield 25-23, 25-21, 25-12 on Thursday in nonconference volleyball action.

Taylor Milbrath was 10-for-10 serving for the Tigers. Vishe Rabb had 11 kills and one block.

Jenny Thoreson added 10 set assists with 10 digs. Callie Wersal had 12 set assists and eight digs.

Red Rock Central did not report stats.

Springfield (1-1) will host Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Thursday.

Sleepy Eye 3, ML/GHEC 0

SLEEPY EYE – Sleepy Eye swept Martin Luther/Granda Huntley-East Chain 25-17, 25-18, 25-15 on Thursday in a nonconference volleyball match.

Justine Gonzalez had 23 set assists for Sleepy Eye. Josie Schieffert had 10 kills, Jamie Wells added seven and Mya Ibberson had five.

Sleepy Eye (2-0) will host Mankato Loyola on Tuesday.

RCW 3, BLHS 2

HECTOR – Renville County West High School prevailed against Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in five sets Thursday night 21-25, 25-21, 27-29, 25-23, 15-10.

The Mustangs were led by Mariah Paulson with nine kills. Ashley Tintes managed five kills as well in the losing effort.

BLHS will play its next game at 7 p.m. Tuesday night at Cathedral.

GIRL’S?SOCCER

New Prague 4, New Ulm 0

NEW PRAGUE – New Prague shut out New Ulm on Thursday in a nonconference girl’s soccer game.

New Prague scored three goals in the first half and added another in the second half.

Eagle Goalie Emily Schotzko had 19 saves for the game.

New Ulm (0-2-1) will host St. Peter next Thursday in a Big South Conference matchup.
