Zoning OK’d in preparation for annexation
NEW ULM The Planning Commission approved on Thursday a petition on behalf of the Arndt Family Trust to zone a property to be annexed by New Ulm as an Industrial-2 District.
The property is located south and west of County State Aid Highway 29/North Garden Street and northwest of North Highland Avenue and is part of the Milford Township. The Arndt Family Trust is requesting the rezoning of the property to allow its sale to the August Schell Brewing Company. The brewery intends to build a small warehouse complex on the site.
The plan is to break ground in October. The site might also be used for production of a sour beer.
Commission members agreed that a brewery would be compatible with the surrounding property. Annexation of the property will be considered during the Sept. 2 City Council meeting.
The Commission once again tabled a decision on the Conditional Use Permit from Haala Real Estate. The CUP request from Tom Haala would allow the commercial excavation of natural materials from property on 1301-1417 North Garden Street and 1201-1227 Elm Street.
Additional documentation is needed before any permit is approved. As of the most recent meeting Haala has been unable to acquire all the documentation requested.
The issue will be brought back again during the Sept. 25 meeting of the Planning Commission.
The commission approved the preliminary plat of Wech’s Fourth Addition, which is located north of Oak Street and east of Raymond Drive. The property is undeveloped and consists of wooded hillside. The current owner of the property intends to sell it, but a new plat was required before the sale.
