Gertrude ‘Dotty’ Faas

NEW ULM – Gertrude “Dotty” E. Faas, 92, of New Ulm died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014 at her home with her family by her side.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 1, 2014 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass. Burial will take place in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery following the service.

Visitation will be from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Sunday evening at the Cathedral. To leave an online condolence for her family or to sign the guestbook, go to

Dotty is survived by her daughter, Cathy (David) Wright of Novice, Texas; grandson David Charles (Mindi) Wright of Dublin, Calif.; great-granddaughter Zoe Mae; nieces LaDonna Cade, Georgann Mathews, Mary Sallet-Moore, Diane Cooley and Susan Delikat; and nephews Tom Sallet, Mike Sallet and Bruce Sallet.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Charles; twin brother Theodore and brother George.

Dotty was born Jan. 27, 1922 in New Ulm to Carl and Margaret (Schochte) Sallet. She married Charles F. Faas at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Nov. 15, 1941 in New Ulm. Dotty lived in the New Ulm area all of her life. She was a homemaker who loved the outdoors, horses and dogs. She was an early member of the Flying Dutchmen Cycle Club, and enjoyed riding her very own Indian Chief Scout motorcycle. She was an avid pheasant and deer hunter, and a great cook. She was talented horse trainer and helped many young girls with their horse interests. Hobbies in the later years included making harness and outfitting Breyer horses with handmade miniature sleds and wagons. She is known best for her quick wit, kindness, and great German Potato salad. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity where she was also active in the Christian Mother Society.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for memorials to the donor’s choice.
